Blueberry Breeding and Assessment
For 25 years, Mountain Blue Orchards has been at the forefront in the introduction, assessment and development of the low chill requiring varieties for warmer climates similar to that in Nothern NSW. New varieties are propagated and released to commercial growers and retail nurseries. To date varieties are being used in commercial plantations in both Morroco and Mexico, with significant advantages to markets throughout the globe.
The primary aim of the breeding program in Australia has been to develop high yielding varieties that ship well, but above
all, provide a great eating experience for the consumer. Reports
from Japanese importers have described the two blueberry varieties
pictured below, as a prized taste sensation, due to the sweet flavour
and the firm texture.
